Vertically-integrated with a focus on sustainability, Accredo Packaging leads the industry with its award-winning line of recyclable product options.
As sustainability becomes a more prominent issue, Accredo has risen to the challenge of offering to its customers various sustainable packaging solutions by adhering to its core mission of sustainability, in both its manufacturing processes and its products.
Based in Sugar Land, Texas Accredo Packaging is 100% electrical powered by wind energy and opened its doors in 2009 as the first LEED® Silver-certified manufacturing facility in the flexible packaging industry.
“Before starting Accredo, I had been in the industry for over 20 years,” said founder and CEO Hank Nguyen. “I knew I wanted to create a different kind of company. One that wasn’t afraid to invest in reducing our carbon footprint.”
Accredo is committed to recycling, water and energy conservation, and any sustainable initiatives along the manufacturing process. For example, Accredo’s advanced printing technology reduces ink and solvent usage by more than a third, when compared with standard presses.
Accredo has also explored beyond traditional resins to biodegradable and recyclable eco-resins. Its product development team’s efforts led to the the first fully ASTM certified, industrially compostable zippered pouch, as well as the first fully recyclable barrier (as well as non-barrier) polyethylene (PE) stand-up pouches in the U.S..

The company’s success led to the opening of a sister facility in Vietnam in 2019. Like the Texas campus, Accredo Asia is LEED® Silver-certified by the US Green Building Council. The state-of-the art facility includes an extensive solar panel array installed on the roof to offset its carbon footprint, and is a further example of Accredo’s commitment to renewable energy.
Environmentally-focused brands have chosen Accredo for its aligned company values. Collaboration with brands such as Gelo hand soaps, which are made from plant-based ingredients, has resulted in the creation of AccredoFlex® Gen2™, a fully recyclable pouch. The all-PE product can be recycled via store drop-off, and is eligible for the Sustainable Packaging Coalition’s How2Recycle label. Even though the pouches comprise of all-PE, they have been recognized for their look and performance, and as a competitive alternative to conventional non-recyclable structures.

“Constant customer collaboration is important to us. Our customers appreciate our expertise as it relates to sustainable packaging solutions, but our outstanding product quality and exceptional customer service are what really set us apart,” said Rex Varn, Executive Vice President of Accredo Packaging.
Accredo’s innovation and sustainability excellence has earned it numerous awards in 2020. The AccredoFlex® Gen2™packaging alone has won two Gold awards from Flexographic Technical Association, The ReFocus Sustainability Summit’s Design for Recyclability Award and The ReFocus Sustainability Summit’s People’s Choice Award.
“Sustainability is a buzzword you see everywhere,” said Varn. “At Accredo, we really do see sustainability as the core of what we do and what we offer.”
